REPORT: User Forum 2007 and ARCAD’s 15th Anniversary

On September 21, the ninth ARCAD Software User Forum took place in Annecy, followed by a gala evening in honor of the 15th anniversary of the company. On this occasion, we welcomed more than sixty participants who came from around the world, emphasizing ARCAD’s international presence.

Philippe MAGNE, chairman of ARCAD Software, began the day by taking stock of 2006 and by outlining the prospects for 2007. To set the scene, he gave us an outline of export sales prospects as well as growth promoters for the System i market. Then he presented ARCAD’s medium- to long-term positioning strategy vis-à-vis these major market trends.
Secondly, Philippe presented the ARCAD evolution project, for which we received the support of OSEO Anvar and the “Innovative Enterprise” label. This project introduces a new face of ARCAD products directly based on the changing structure of information systems and our strategic orientation towards integration management. Modernization paths, as well as the principles of a SOA approach, were also at the heart of the discussion.

Alison BUTTERILL, WW System i Application Development Offering Manager at IBM brought us all her expertise and clarity in her presentation entitled, “Application Development Strategy for System i,” in which she drew a complete panorama of the System i developer road atlas, whose objective is to arrive at a service-oriented architecture.

Marc DALLAS, ARCAD R&D Director, introduced the new functional orientations of the products lying within the scope of the ARCAD evolution project:

  • Integration management corresponding to multiplatform deployment,
  • Functional non-regression tests corresponding to the new version of ARCAD-Verifier,
  • ARCAD-Extract corresponding to coherent management of test data sets.

Based on initial reports and precise problem analysis, the purpose of these presentations was to present our resolution approach while taking functional constraints into account.

Michel MOUCHON, ARCAD Technical Director, illustrated these presentations in a concrete way with a technical product demonstration, assisted by Ray BERNARDI, Senior Presales Consultant (USA), for the English part of the presentation.

Finally, Trevor PERRY, CTO of KMR Systems Corporation, spoke brilliantly with a presentation dedicated to “Practical” Application Modernization. With his 10 principal tips, Trevor, answered, in a concrete way, the following questions: What is modernization? And why should I modernize? A “don’t miss” presentation to learn where you are compared to the technology timetable…

CONCLUSION
At the 2007 ARCAD Users Forum, which was held in a very convivial environment, Alison’s and Trevor’s presentations were a great success. Here, in no particular order, are what you appreciated the most: the opportunity to meet other ARCAD users, the ambiance, the discussions, the warm and welcoming environment, the mixture of cultures (FRANCE - USA), the ARCAD strategy and the team spirit, and of course, cruising on the lake and our festive evening in honor of our 15th anniversary.
The entire ARCAD team also appreciates your fidelity and your confidence, and very cordially thanks you for your presence. It is you who made this day a great success…

Well then, return next year for a new edition!
