THE BUSINESS ISSUE

The lion's share of IT service resources are dedicated to maintaining existing applications rather than to developing new ones. Further, security and high availability of applications, compounded by new regulatory requirements and application modernization needs, are critical to the success of companies today. Clearly, there is a strong argument for installing the right tools to handle these issues proactively. ARCAD-Skipper, which applies to companies of any scale, safeguards legacy applications, and ensures security and productivity during application enhancement.

THE ARCAD SOLUTION

The ARCAD-Skipper suite guarantees you full control over your application changes. It applies a structured organizational framework based on robust and proven methodologies. By this alone, IT departments often see productivity gains exceeding 30%.

ARCAD-Skipper defines a set of working environments and automates the lifecycle of software components, such as transfer to test, transfer to production, distribution, and multi-machine installation. Due to its integrated and open global architecture, ARCAD-Skipper can adapt to all types of configurations, working speeds, and levels of need. Its developer-oriented approach and interchangeable native and graphical/WebSphere interfaces make the tool highly adaptable to your team's working methods.

ARCAD-Skipper provides a complete solution for multi-platform application management:

  • References all software components from a single view,
  • Coordinates multi-platform change (native, client/server, Web),
  • Manages parallel development,
  • Controls multi-platform dependencies between components,
  • Tracks requests,
  • Receives and integrates new versions of software packages,
  • Synchronizes deployment of multi-platform components,
  • Version control and deployment of parameter data,
  • Administration of DB2/UDB components.

TECHNICAL ARCHITECTURE

ARCAD-Skipper relies on a native IBM i repository: the application knowledge base. Before you load your Repository, an audit phase will allow you to detect any inconsistencies in your application architecture (sources without object, objects without source, etc.). Our standard tools allow you to quickly carry out any restructuring that may result from the audit phase. This Open Repository core is specifically used to:

  • Manage the topology of software components (source, object positions),
  • Perform impact analyses, using cross-references,
  • Automate recompilation of dependent components (files/programs, COPY clauses /programs, ILE programs),
  • Automatically check the integrity of modifications.
