EDITORIAL

Once again, we have decided to put our testing activity in the spotlight, for a number of reasons:
First, because this newsletter came out just after our latest customer event.
Second, because we cannot ignore that testing is an increasingly strategic and sensitive issue. The reliability of our applications will rely on this crucial phase. There is no need to even mention the ever more disastrous effects of IT bugs. Lastly, because we are very happy to share with you the technical and methodological expertise that we have developed over the last eight plus years in this specific area.
We have had a very heavy workload, and no doubt so have you. So, without further ado, we invite you to have a look at the various articles that we have for you. You will also see that there is a lot of news in this issue.
As CEO of ARCAD, I’m proud there’s so much to tell you, since it reflects how dynamic our company is… and we’re not done yet.

Regression Testing: the key to a good customer/software vendor relationships

A software vendor and its customers always find themselves working from opposing standpoints with respect to version changes. A software vendor will always try to get its customers to follow the latest changes as closely as possible. Among other factors, this helps the software vendor to lighten its maintenance workload on older versions. However, the customer is understandably not always eager to respond to this encouragement.

Getting control of test data

Regression test automation tools such as execution robots have been in existence for some time and allow time savings on the execution phase together with capitalization on the functional knowledge of the applications. However, the implementation cost remains high because they must work with the natural phenomenon of changes in the data in the test databases.

How was the first RPG & DB2 SUMMIT in France?

This first RPG & DB2 Summit in France was a positive experience that was greeted with genuine enthusiasm. The Summit place on 21 and 22 October in the Montmartre neighborhood in Paris. This was a first-time initiative that has been praised by the participants along with the sponsors and the speakers: Susan Gantner, Jon Paris, and Paul Tuohy. Given strong demand from participants – some of whom are planning to return with their entire team next time – this major first event could be just the beginning of future RPG & DB2 Summits to come.

The latest ARCAD solutions release

ARCAD Software is pleased to announce that version 08.09.10 of its solutions has been available since mid-October 2010.
One of the new functions of this version concerns the integration of ARCAD-Reporting, which makes it possible to create operating ARCAD reports at the level of the Open Repository.
Another exciting change is that the ARCAD plugins are now compatible with RDP 7.6 and 8.0. This means that for RDP 7.6 users, the preparation of DSPF- and PRTF-type components can now be done via Screen Designer or Report Designer, respectively.
The other major changes concern our ARCAD-Qualifier/Verifier test automation suite, including:
-The SSL compatibility of our 5250 emulator.
- Exclusion of mass areas in data comparison.
- Import/export of scenarios with data collected and/or screens. So it is now possible to export and import a scenario with the data collected, and when a scenario is exported, you can also choose whether or not to export the screen data of the results by default. The data is then inserted into the xml file that is generated during the development process.
- File comparison reports, with the option of choosing the headings for a report on the results of execution of the scenario, and the possibility of choosing the files to be compared in order to generate a comparison report.
